Dairy Intolerance
Many people who are intolerant to cow's milk will also be intolerant to sheep and goat’s milk.
Products to avoid
- Milk products, fresh milk unless boiled for at least 20 seconds before using.
- All powdered milk, milk drinks & prepared instant powdered hot or cold malted chocolate or coffee drinks.
- Cream, butter, margarine, ice cream, yoghurt, cheese.
- Casein, caseinate, hydrolised casein, milk solids, whey, lactose or lactalbumin
Processed foods likely to contain milk & dairy
- Baked goods eg some breads, rolls, pancakes, scones, cakes, biscuits & packet snacks.
- Instant mashed potato, soup, ready made meals, processed meats, sausages, custard, puddings, some chocolate, confectionary.
- Medicines may contain lactose.
Always read the label.
Products ok for use
- Milks made from rice, oats, U.H.T. (Long Life), almonds, coconut, pea & sunflower, cream.
- Cheese replacements.
- Hoummus, taramasolata, fish or vegetable pate (read label or make your own).
- Tofu
- Chocolate that is ok – Green & Blacks, Lindt Swiss chocolate, Lindt Lindor
Food with a high calcium content
People worry about their calcium levels, especially ladies.
Legumes, curly kale, figs, sesame seeds, meat, okra, tahini, almonds, sardines, pilchards (with bones), apricots, hazelnuts, salmon, spring greens, brazil nuts, broccoli, watercress, spinach, oranges, chocolate.
